Abstract: PhD thesis: (Dis)connections between young people and politics/citizenship – the interference of news information (see abstract in attachment) Questions discussed during the workshop (among others): 1. From the point of view of audience research, it is too complex to discuss what journalism and participation are, because youth and journalism are too complex nowadays. The path is to hear what the youngsters say and continue to establish and reflect on their proposals. Is this the best option to contribute to simplifying this complex equation? 2. There is a need to shift from internet-based audience research to a more ecological approach: media consumption and production is a multifactorial operation within daily life. Different people make different demands and have diverse agendas within society. Should we rather think of integration between offline and online options within daily life? 3. Active audiences mean active citizenship in its many dimensions, from macro to micro participation. Should we rather contribute to the construction of a political bridging rather than persisting with division (traditional/bad or non traditional/good) and contributing to unstable concepts?
