Damásio, M., Henriques, Sara (2011). Virtual communities and social activities: reframing the on-line experience. IJWBC - International Journal of Web Based Communities,, Vol. 6(4).
Abstract: This work introduces the core elements to be considered in the study of communities and their related online experience, considering social capital and user activities as nuclear concepts. The study deals with three local communities and discusses whether social media sites and associated technologies allow for greater social involvement and a larger sense of belonging on the subject’s side, though encouraging original forms of interaction and social cohesion and the production of greater levels of social capital.
