Abstract: This paper presents the findings of an empirical study on technology based mediation amongst children based communities and proposes a theoretical framework for the study of communities and their related on-line experience, introducing as essential concepts the notion of social capital and activity. The main goal is to understand the ways children interact with an on-line device and the ways they use that device within the context of their own community to promote social interaction and knowledge acquisition.
