Hamid-turksoy, N. (2012). Turkey’s Representation in the European Media: A Glimpse to France, Germany and Britain. Can Bilgili, Nesrin Tan Akbulut (Ed.). Broken Grounds: Mass Communication and Cultural Transformation 1, 135-152Sofia: Bulgaria: Prof. Martin Drinov academic Publishing House.
http://graphilline.com/product/209/broken-grounds.htmlAbstract: Recent studies that evaluate European press reporting of Turkey illustrate that news media are fed by historically negative versus recently positive political discourses. this article explores the representation of contemporary Turkey's political image, be reviewing news media coverage of three influential countries; France, Germany, and Britain. These countries are placed at the heart of this study, since they have different domestic political, cultural and historical relationship with Turkey; they also have a substantial interest and say on Turkey's long-standing ambition to join the EU. Hereby, I offer a conceptual glimpse about how news media of these countries treats Turkey and Turkey's EU membership process and what kind of dominant discourses do media reproduce to construct the image of Turkey in local press.
